Clients receive a personalized Recovery Service Plan upon arrival which focuses on classes and activities to strengthen the skills needed to move to a less restrictive care setting, and eventually back to their own communities. Once clients have begun their personalized plans, Crestwood Center provides continual encouragement and assessment to ensure that they have the greatest opportunities to succeed.

The facility also offers a wide variety of classes, from core recovery offerings such as the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP), to community living skills and substance abuse education. Clients may engage in a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, exercise, relaxation, and movie nights.

Crestwood Center Sacramento offers Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT is a form of therapy developed by Marsha Linehan Ph.D. at the University of Washington that is an evidence-based practice used to improve a client’s ability to regulate their emotional responses to situations that occur in their lives that they may have previously responded to in a self-destructive or aggressive manner.

The DBT program has made a considerable impact on the lives of the participants and on the overall treatment environment. As some of our participants have remarked:

“My mental status has improved. DBT has encouraged me to love and forgive myself. It has encouraged me to assess the thoughts that have haunted me for years, and for that, I am in a better place.”

“It keeps me in touch with the outside world. It keeps me knowing myself and talking about things that have debilitated me in the past and that have kept me ill. It has taught me what to do, and not to do, when I am in crisis.”

Special Feature

All Crestwood Center Sacramento clients are invited to participate in our pre-vocational program that places individuals in various positions around the facility as “trainees” to help them develop positive work habits. Based on their interests, clients are welcome to contribute to housing, the business office, maintenance/gardening, dietary programs and recreational programs. Crestwood Center also enjoys a partnership with California State University, Sacramento that allows nursing students to gain real world experience during a semester-long psychiatric rotation at the facility.
