Hope, Love and a Miracle Reunion in Eureka

At Crestwood Eureka we have a client who is blind and who had not been in touch with her son since he was 6 years old.  Being estranged from him and her ex-husband for these many years had added to her trauma and depression. For years she had sent letters trying to locate both of them, but to no avail.

Late last year she received a call from her Conservator that her son, who is now 22 years old and living in Florida, was trying to find her. Her ex-husband had passed away and her son had found some of the old letters she had written and reached out to contact her.

The Crestwood Eureka staff, her Conservator, our client and her son all worked together to plan a round-trip from Florida to Eureka for her son to stay a week in Eureka so they could have their reunion. Her son’s visit was during the second week of December, which also coincided with his birthday and the campus’ annual Holiday Tea. Our client was very excited about her son visiting and spent weeks working with our staff to make sure the trip was successful, to plan some close outings for them both to enjoy, and to buy a gift and cake for his birthday.

For a long time, our client was in a place of complete hopelessness that she would never see her son again. It was truly a magical moment to see this story play out the way it did, spending his birthday and a Holiday celebration together with all of us at Crestwood Eureka. This young man spent the week showing love and compassion for the mother he really never knew and who lives with severe and persistent mental health challenges.

We were so blessed to be a part of this reunion and to witness an example of how there is hope and that there are miracles so long as we are patient and keep the faith.
