Donna M. Wigand's Story
The period between April 2002 and through July 2003 defined the commitment and integrity of a values-driven relationship between Crestwood and Contra Costa County’s Mental Health Director, staff, consumers and the community. Together, we struggled against age old bias, fear and a misinformed constituency within the Pleasant Hill community to establish a safe environment for eighty consumers seeking recovery and their rightful place in society. To the credit of many, the enduring and steadfast determination of Crestwood and their partners, Crestwood Pleasant Hill was opened, establishing three program options; The Healing Center (mental health rehabilitation center), The Bridge (licensed board and care), and The Pathway (a transitional residential program). Today there is a calmness in the neighborhood, a broadening of understanding, and the recovery of spirits.
